Shopping for Home Security Devices and Wireless Home Security Systems at a Security Store
Make Your List Before Hitting the Home Security Store! There's probably not a person alive that doesn't have some type of weakness, some hobby or "thing" that they really love and can be just absorbed in. Some women can shoe shop for hours or love miniatures and doll houses, some men can lose themselves in hot rod magazines for hours or spend an entire afternoon just browsing the home improvement store. And for many, a home security store can be just as distracting, as they drool and grunt over the hundreds of accessories, gadgets, and options available to them. And today, many home security stores are featuring so-called spy gadgets, cameras and microphones that are typically no bigger than a dime. Which means that if you have any type of budget that you need to stick to, it's a good idea to make your list before heading out to shop! But suppose you really don't have much of a budget or are shopping for something for someone else - what are some really cool gadgets and toys you can find at today's home security stores? Those spy gadgets are just the beginning. So-called bullet hole cameras need just that to operate - an opening no larger that a bullet hole. They can be placed virtually anywhere in the home or office and connect to a VCR or DVR player to record their pictures. Many home security stores offer a wide variety of such cameras and most are only around $100. IP cameras are those that broadcast their video to a website; these are great options for parents who want to watch their children when they're at work or who need to keep an eye on an elderly relative in the home. They may have no need to record the video, just watch it when they can. Any home security store that offers home surveillance cameras should have a wide variety of IP cameras to choose from. Home automation is another popular option these days that can be found at most home security stores. When wired throughout the entire house, you can turn on and off the outside lights, adjust the temperature, and even set the alarm without getting up. Or these can be set to timers, so that your lights and thermostat can be controlled without you even thinking about them. This is a great option for those who travel a lot and may want to control their home system while they're away. Most home security stores can explain how to install and use such systems easily so that even the novice can hook one up. Whatever type of gadget or accessory you're into when it comes to home security and surveillance, you can no doubt find it at a reputable home security store. There are many online as well that will let you build your own home security system and will give you some recommendations. Just be sure you exercise some restraint and stick to your list so that you don't break your budget at the home security store! Some Inexpensive Home Security Devices Wanting to make your home as safe and secure as possible is a worthy goals for any homeowner or family head. No matter what city or zip code you live in, chances are you could stand to make some improvements to your own home's security. But what if you're on a budget? Don't worry, you're still in luck. This article will cover some inexpensive but still very effective home security devices for both inside and outside your home. You can then decide which will be right for you and your own personal home security needs. An Automatic Garage Door Closer Many people don't realize that the garage is one common way for burglars to break into a home. When considering home security devices, remember to secure the garage as well. An automatic garage door opener will close the garage door after it's been open for a certain amount of time. This is great for those who find that they are always forgetting to close the garage, especially at night. No one wants to get out of a warm bed just to double-check the garage. These types of home security devices come in many different makes and models, can be programmed as to how much time should elapse before they close, and usually retail for less than $100. They're also a great gift for those who may find that closing the garage is becoming more and more physically difficult. Motion Alerts Hooking up motion sensors to outdoor lights is a great way to deter intruders. However, there are many home security devices that act as motion detectors for inside the home as well. If they detect movement, they beep and must have a code punched in within a few second or an alarm will sound. These are great options for homeowners who are concerned with a burglar being able to bypass any other alarm systems. These types of home security devices install very easily and are also typically less than $100. Your home security retailer can explain any features that you are not sure about. Standalone Entry Alarms Standalone alarms are home security devices that need no extra wiring or installation. They consist of two small boxes; one is adhered to the door or window and one to the wall next to it. They have a small signal that bounces back and forth between them and if the signal is broken, the alarm sounds. These home security devices just run on batteries and a simple on/off switch. They are so basic and simple that most are under $20. If you're on a budget and are still looking for some home security devices, you have several options. Check with a local home improvement store or online and do some comparison shopping. Of course, it helps to know beforehand what type of security you need and what you're trying to accomplish before shopping. But it is possible to stay on a budget and still find some home security devices that will work for you. Why Opt for a Wireless Home Security System? Having an alarm system in your home is not a bad idea. Crime rates are rising virtually everywhere, including in so-called "good" or "nice" neighborhoods. Many families are becoming increasingly aware of their need for added security, and a good option for many is a wireless home security system. Especially if you have children home alone after school or own a lot of expensive household items will you want to consider installing such a system. Why do we say this; what advantages does a wireless home security system have over a hardwired system? Here are some things to consider: Most alarm systems work in virtually the same way. There are sensors that are attached to the area you want to secure, such as a door or window, and usually to the wall next to it. Those two sensors usually have a signal running through them in a continuous loop; when that loop is broken from someone opening the door or window, the sensor sends a signal to the mechanism that sounds the alarm. In a wireless home security system, that signal is sent through the air. If you opt for a hardwired system, you need to run a wire or cable from every sensor you hook up to the keypad. Obviously this would be cumbersome, more difficult to install for a do-it-yourselfer, and rather unsightly. A wireless home security system is typically much more subtle and can usually blend in with any décor or home design. And because there are no lines or cables, you don't need to make holes in the walls, tear up any carpeting, or fuss with trying to get the wires to run flush along a wall or doorframe. They're also a great consideration for home with young children, as you don't want them to ever get their hands on the wires or cables of the alarm system. A wireless home security system is usually much easier to install than a hardwired system. You typically just plug in the keypad, mount the security sensors where you want them to be, and program it rather quickly. There usually isn't much more involved than that. If you want to install your own wireless home security system, there are some things to consider. You can usually get one with a sensor that is connected to a key fob so that you don't even need to remember and enter a pass code to deactivate the alarm. A hardwired system runs on electricity to operate whereas wireless systems run on a lithium battery. Many times the wireless home security system needs to be tested to be sure the battery is running at optimal levels. Many wireless home security systems can also be monitored alarms, meaning that an outside company can be monitoring your alarm system at their office. If the alarm is tripped, the company will alert police and rescue personnel immediately. This can be a great asset for children who are home alone or those who may get easily flustered in an emergency situation.
