Decorate Your Child's Room with an Area Rug

If you want a nice decorative accent for your home that is also good at keeping dirt out consider placing area carpets near the entry doors. Area carpets are really useful in a kid’s room. When picking out one for their room you’ll need to realize that it’s a kids room that has different needs than other areas of the house. Be choosy when buying one for their little corner of the world.

If you’re like most adults you love the plush feel of a thick soft carpet to snuggle your feet against.  However, kid’s needs must be considered when purchasing area carpets. Kids love to play, and getting a carpet that has a high thick pile interrupts playtime.  Look at safety factors too when placing area carpets on slick wood floors. Most come with a rubberized backing, but check periodically to make sure slick plastic toys don’t loosen its grip to the floors.

Another consideration when picking out any type of flooring for your child is to think cleanability. If your child is like most they track dirt and sticky mud into their room along with a lot of other things like fall leaves and sticks. This gets ground into your carpet, so pile height for easy clean up is a factor too. A thick dense pile on area carpets makes it almost impossible to get it thoroughly clean. Area carpets that are 1/3 (8mm) inch in depth are easy to clean, and will let your kids play easily on the floor.

The type of fiber that you pick will affect the ability to clean it too. Area carpets that are made of natural fibers might not be a good choice. Fibers like these will soak up dirt and spills easily, especially if you don’t have a protective stain guard applied to it. It’s better to go with one made of plastic materials like nylon. The rug will last a long time if you buy one that has the nylon and a protective stain guard.

Even though these types of floor coverings have been out for quite a few years, your child might enjoy some of the new designs that are printed on to them. The standards of road and bridge designs are now joined by planets and maps. Some area carpets have action figures, and popular kid’s movie designs too. A good aspect about purchasing a rug with designs is that it helps them learn, and the carpet can be rolled up and changed out when your child’s interest changes. That’s a lot easier to do than removing sticky wall paper when using design concepts.

Rug manufacturers have certainly come a long way since a few years ago. They’re easy to clean and your children can learn while playing on them. Make sure to look around for the different cuts and color choices of area carpets, and remember to ask your kid what they like too. After all they’re the one that will use it and enjoy it.

Rug Buying Tips

Rugs can be made of many different materials which affect how easily a rug can be cleaned, how well they resist stains and how well they handle traffic. Area rugs can be made from natural materials like wool and sisal. Man-made materials like nylon or acylic usually hold up better for a child's area rug.
